What sets it apart
Ayurveda is a traditional Indian system of care in which warm-oil massage plays an important part. Our massage draws on it: heated sesame oil, long rhythmic movements, particular attention to the back and spine. It is not an Ayurvedic consultation and we make no diagnosis.
The difference is felt mostly in the rhythm. Strokes are broader and more regular than in a standard relaxing massage, and more oil is used. Together they create an enveloping warmth that is deeply soothing.
For better sleep
This is the massage we most often suggest to travellers arriving from the Americas or Asia whose sleep is out of step. Taken in the evening, an hour or two before bed, it helps you slow down and sets up a calmer night.
Keep the evening light afterwards: a simple dinner, no screens straight away, and a lukewarm shower before bed to remove the excess oil if you like.
Sesame oil
Sesame is the traditional oil for this kind of massage. It is thicker than argan, holds heat well and nourishes dry skin, which matters in Marrakech's dry climate.
It has a slight scent. If you are sensitive to it, or allergic to sesame, mention it when booking and we will use another oil.

Frequently asked questions
Is it a real Ayurvedic massage?
It is a massage inspired by the Ayurvedic tradition, with its oil and characteristic strokes. It is not given as part of a full Ayurvedic consultation.
Is the hair massaged?
The treatment focuses on the back. If you would like a scalp massage, say so: it can be added at the end, with a lighter oil if you do not want to wash your hair.
Is it suitable in summer?
Yes, in a cool or air-conditioned room. Warm oil stays pleasant even in hot weather, but the evening is better.
How is it different from the relaxing massage?
Both are gentle. The Ayurvedic massage concentrates on the back with more oil and a broader rhythm; the relaxing massage covers the whole body. For trouble sleeping, choose the Ayurvedic one.
